Magnaclad has partnered with John Addis & Associates -- an internationally respected training specialist -- to provide comprehensive training solutions. We design training programmes, develop and produce localised training material, and help our clients to implement systems that assure ongoing success of their training initiatives. Magnaclad also provides turnkey solutions for the construction of training facilities.

Construction

Electrician

The training programme is applicable to the training of construction and maintenance electricians After covering basic electrical skills, the training course deals with wiring of single and three phase circuits; installing cables; electric motors; transformers and finally the testing of installations. There are 16 individual Learning Guides divided into six sections of learning.

Brick and Block Laying

The training programme commences with basic skills (workplace safety; drawings and specifications; geometry and transferring levels). Thereafter the programme deals with cement technology; setting out; brick and block laying and the construction of foundations and superstructures.

Carpentry

The carpentry training programme commences with the generic basic skills (workplace safety; drawings and specifications; geometry and transferring levels), and thereafter includes roof structures and coverings, ceilings, doors, fittings and fixtures.

Plastering, Tiling and Paving

The training programme includes the generic basic skills as well as plastering skills and applications, laying of floor screeds, wall and floor tiling, and paving.

Plumbing

The plumbing training material includes basic construction related skills and the covers fusing and cutting of metals; guttering and flashing; water supply piping; water heating systems; kitchen and bathroom components and sewer systems.

 

Automotive

Motor Mechanic

The courseware comprises four individual levels and fulfils all requirements for apprenticeship training from basic to advanced skills. The categories of vehicles covered are passenger and light delivery. There are 37 individual Learning Guides.

Diesel Mechanic

The programme has four levels and is designed for the training of heavy duty diesel mechanic apprentices from basic to advanced skills. There are four levels and 33 individual Learning Guides. The material is also suitable for training on earthmoving equipment.

Automotive Electrician

This training programme covers both light motor vehicle 12 volt and heavy duty vehicle 24 volt electrical systems. The material is also applicable to earthmoving machinery. The courseware fulfils the training requirements of auto electrical apprentices and comprises 27 individual Learning Guides.

Tractor Mechanic

The training material covers the full range of agricultural tractors and can also be used for training on most earthmoving machines. The tractor mechanic courseware fulfils the requirements for apprenticeship training. The programme consists of 32 individual Learning Guides in three levels.

Motor Cycle Mechanic

The programme’s outcomes are intended for the training of motor cycle and scooter apprentices. There are three levels and 27 individual Learning Guides. Skills are from basic to advanced levels.

Automotive Engine Fitter

The training material is intended primarily for the training of apprentices in the re-manufacturing industry where both petrol and diesel engines are disassembled, assessed, repaired and re-built to manufacturers’ specifications. There are 27 individual Learning Guides.

Diesel Fuel Injection Technician

The courseware is most suitable for the training of diesel fuel pump room technicians and starts with basic mechanical skills and ends with advanced fuel injection systems. There are 25 individual Learning Guides divided into two levels.

 

General Engineering

Boilermaker/Plater/Welder

The training material is applicable to a wide range of skills and processes used in metal fabrication and manufacturing environments. The courseware has 21 individual Learning Guides divided into 4 levels and includes basic skills, all welding applications and processes, construction techniques and advanced welding skills.

Fitter and Turner

This is an extensive trade related training programme and consists of 41 individual Learning Guides in eight sections covering basic fitting and turning skills; gas welding and cutting; arc welding; maintaining industrial machinery; basic turning and milling; installing and maintaining auxiliary components on machines; hydraulics and pneumatics; advanced turning, milling and surface grinding.

Magnaclad opens new Technology Centre in Pretoria

Magnaclad has moved into its new permanent home in Pretoria – a 10,000 square metre facility which has been completely refitted to accommodate the company’s growing team. The newly opened Magnaclad Technology Centre houses one of three automated roll-forming machines used for the manufacturing of building frames. Each machine has the capacity to manufacture 2000 to 3000 metres of steel-frame buildings per daily shift. This capacity translates into 2 to 3 100sqm houses.

According to company president Jacques van den Berg, the focus of Magnaclad’s Technology Centre is to provide integrated support services.  "By locating our sales and marketing, quantity surveying, architectural, engineering, manufacturing, procurement and logistics teams under the same roof, we can provide comprehensive support services. We now have a multidisciplinary professional team available on site to assist clients and business partners with all aspects of building design, structural engineering, costing and project management.”

Magnaclad has concluded a contract with LAIP/Ubuntu Mozambique for the construction of residential and commercial buildings for the planned Bela Vista Rice Project. Construction will commence in January 2010.

According to sales director Tiaan Grobbelaar, Magnaclad was selected because their steel frame construction technology lends itself to cost-effective building in remote locations. Magnaclad will deliver a turnkey solution including architectural designs, quantity surveying services, procurement, project management and construction.

The five-year, 30 million US dollar Bela Vista Rice Project was launched in August 2009 by LAIP/Ubuntu Mozambique, a consortium formed by Libya Africa Investment Portfolio (LAIP) and Mozambican company Ubuntu SA. Initially rice will be grown in an area of nine hectares, with an expected annual harvest of 40 thousand tons of rice. Within 3 years, the project is expected to meet at least 20% of Mozambique’s rice needs.

Magnaclad has deployed its first mobile manufacturing unit from Pretoria to the Nampula district in the north of Mozambique. Ten 230 m2 plantation houses will be fabricated on site for a Banana Plantation.

Work is scheduled for completion at the end of 2009. The mobile facility is fully equipped to fabricate buildings in remote sites.

Magnaclad has acquired a 2000 m2 facility in Pretoria, South Africa intended to be a training centre for Light Steel Frame Technology in support of its remote site operations.

The facility will be undergo extensive renovations and is expected to be ready for use by the end of 2009. The facility will also be used for short production runs to satisfy the needs of small projects and continuous research and development.

ZAR 4,500,000.

One of the machines will be deployed to Magnaclad's Training Centre in Pretoria, while the remaining two will be configured as mobile fabrication units that can be deployed anywhere on the African continent.

The first of 50 houses is completed at the prestigious Aramis Housing Estate on The Plateau in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo.

The economic meltdown and the subsequent mass closure of mines in the area will hamper the development, and work on the estate is only scheduled to commence in 2010, subject to the mines resuming their operations.
